Weaving a Europe of Solidarity

Introduction

Our interest is to strengthen the relationship between young European people and to foster the existing ties between European cities in the network. We need to be aware of cultural diversity in Europe and that knowledge of this subject is a fundamental value to promote the integration and values of European citizenship. We will do it by means of:

  • The promotion of volunteering and solidarity,
  • The debate between youth
  • The knowledge and dissemination of the cultural heritage of the cities with regard to the fabric
  • Sharing experiences and encouraging friendship among young people belonging to the network of the twin cities
  • Strengthening the participation and involvement of young people in European projects led by the cities of the network
  • Understanding that we share a common space that must be respected by promoting democratic participation, equality and solidarity.
Our goals:

We are interested in publicizing young people:

  • The cultural diversity of other European countries to establish contacts and ties of friendship that lead us to assess the importance of active participation in society.
  • That they remain aware of the challenges facing the EU.
  • What working together and united, young people can develop the values of citizenship and European identity.
  • That the knowledge of the countries of the EU, their languages and traditions will help them train and value the importance of the coexistence in diversity.
  • To announce this project and the activities related to as much people as possible
  • To invite to actively participate: young people, elder people, students, workers - all kind of people
We will achieve our goals by the following means:
  • With tools like thread, wool, fabric
  • Using and appreciating non-formal learning.
  • We want to recover a common tradition in European peoples, such as knitting or spinning.
  • We promote gender equality by motivating male participants to integrate into an activity that has always been considered as women's own.
  • We interact with young people and the elderly: the youth contributing with their creativity; the elderly contributing with their experience and their knowledge, all working side by side.
  • We promote cooperative work which demands dialogue and the participation of all to solve the task of knitting.
  • We value the artisan and manual work side to open the door to a possible work and business activity.
  • We promote the development of a sustainable economy.
  • We promote personal values ​​such as psychomotricity, motivation, relaxation and self-esteem.

Preparations for the project in Zamość

  • Weaving. We, as a youth group of Zamość learned how to weave. Also we encouraged some new young people to take part in weaving and we talked them about the project.
  • Visit at a university in Zamość (PWSZ). We communicated about the project for the broader audience.
  • Visit in regional agriculture museum in Sitno near Zamość. We had a possibility to see historical tools for weaving and talk with older people about their experiences.
